Our move to Knoxville in the Spring of 2008 was a success.  Over the past two growing seasons and trial and error we've gotten good results growing dahlias at our condo in the limited amount of space available.  Our catalog is considerably smaller and there will be very few of our dahlias for sale.

Please enjoy looking at my photos and remember to look for your favorites from:  Hilltop Dahlias in North Carolina, Swan Island Dahlias in Oregon and Connell's in Washington State

The seeds from a dahlia never duplicate the parent.  That's where the excitement of growing dahlias from seeds comes in.
Seeds are planted about 1 inch apart and covered to a depth of about 1/4 inch. Water as needed to keep the soil damp, but not soggy.

Seeds will germinate in 7-21 days under a variety of conditions. You can speed up germination by providing bottom heat. Heating cables or mats work great or you can try the warm top of an old refrigerator or freezer.

You will transplant them to larger containers when they have 2 or more sets of true leaves - plant outdoors after all danger of frost.

After you have transplanted your seedling and it starts forming buds, you will wait in anticipation to see the results.
Many times you will get a single flower much like that on the lower left of this page - but occasionally you will get a beauty like Jan's Pink Sunset.
That dahlia is then yours to name, nourish and present to the world.
